Active Adults: Upcoming Events and Travel Plans
June may be a quiet month for the Active Adults, with no scheduled events due to VBS and mission trips, but the excitement is building for their trip to Jonesboro on July 18, which will include lunch at Ron’s Catfish followed by bowling. A sign-up sheet is available in the Grand Hall.
Looking ahead, the November trip to the Biltmore Estate (November 3-8) is in jeopardy unless enough participants sign up. If you're interested in joining, be sure to let Brian know by June 24. If the trip doesn’t meet the required number of participants, there’s a Branson Christmas trip scheduled for the same week, filled with shopping, shows, and stunning holiday lights.
Celebrate Recovery: Growing Stronger Together
This month, Celebrate Recovery saw 34 attendees on average, with large gatherings continuing between 30 and 50 individuals. This program offers healing and support to those dealing with life’s hurts, habits, and hang-ups. The group is always in need of volunteers to help out, particularly with meals on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays each month. If you're interested in joining, consider visiting the group to see how you can get involved.
Children’s Ministry: Camp Siloam, VBS, and Sports Crusaders
June was an incredible month for the Children’s Ministry! Nine kids attended Camp Siloam, where four of them made decisions for Christ—a true blessing. VBS was a great success, with 52 kids and 53 volunteers participating. On the final day, 30 parents stayed for Brother Marc’s powerful Gospel message.
The Sports Crusaders Camp also took place in June, with 22 kids in attendance for a week of fun and learning.
Looking ahead, we are gearing up for VBS and Sports Crusaders camps in June. We are still in need of 15-20 volunteers to make these events successful. Contact Katie Yarbrough for more information.
Food Pantry: Serving the Community
In June, the West View Food Pantry served 634 people from 221 households. The pantry’s renovation is nearly complete, and we look forward to an open house and dedication on June 30, which will be part of our worship service.
For the month of July, we are requesting donations of canned spaghetti and ravioli to continue supporting families in need. The pantry is open on Thursdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, and we invite you to stop by and see the ministry in action. Thank you to everyone who has supported us through food donations, monetary gifts, and volunteering.
Men’s Ministry: Fellowship and Bible Study
The Men’s Ministry had a great time at their annual Golf Scramble on June 1, with 14 men in attendance for a fun and competitive day. The next Men’s Breakfast will be held on July 6 at 8 AM in the Gathering Place.
Bro. Marc’s Wednesday night Men’s Bible study continues to meet at Hardee’s at 5 PM, with about 15 men attending each week. The group is currently studying the book of Daniel, and new attendees are always welcome. The Sunday night Men’s Class is also active, averaging 10 men each week. The group discusses video materials through a biblical lens, and all men are encouraged to join.
Missions: Saturate, New Orleans Trip, and Back-to-School Outreach
In May, West View launched the Saturate project, creating door-hanger bags with information about Jesus. There are still plenty of maps available for anyone who would like to participate in reaching our community. Maps can be checked out from the church office.
A team from West View traveled to New Orleans in June for a mission trip, where they engaged in community service, including handing out water bottles, washing cars, and working at food pantries. Stay tuned for more updates on this impactful trip next month.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for our Back-to-School Ministry Day on August 3, where we will serve 400+ children and their families with school supplies, haircuts, food, and most importantly, the message of Christ. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this ministry.
Music Ministry: Growing and Preparing for God & Country Service
The Music Ministry continues to grow, and we invite anyone interested in joining the choir to attend practice on Wednesday nights at 6 PM in the choir room. As we approach the God and Country service on July 30, choir members will play a key role in celebrating our nation’s freedoms while honoring God’s blessings.
Students: Mission Lab, Super Summer, and Evangelism
West View students had an eventful summer, attending Mission Lab 2024 in New Orleans from June 9-12, where 7 students served through water bottle evangelism and food pantry work. In addition, Super Summer was a highlight, with 5 students attending the high school session and growing in their faith.
In June, students also participated in door-to-door evangelism with the East Central University Baptist Student Union (BSU), reaching out to our local community. The students will continue their outreach efforts in the coming months and will prepare for VBS.
Women’s Ministry: Back-to-School Outreach and Packing Party
Our next Women’s Ministry meeting will be a combined July and August event, scheduled for Monday, July 29 at 6 PM in the Gathering Place. This will be a packing party for the gift bags to be given out during the Back-to-School event.
We are asking for donations of trial-sized personal hygiene products—including deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, and more. If you would like to contribute, please bring items to the church or contact Kathy Mitchell or Michele Smith. We hope to assemble 100+ bags to bless the women in our community.
Final Thoughts: A Season of Service and Growth
This summer has been filled with meaningful ministry, from reaching children and families through VBS and Sports Crusaders to serving our community through mission trips and the Food Pantry. As we continue to grow in faith and fellowship, we encourage everyone to get involved in the activities and opportunities that align with your heart for service. Whether you’re joining a Bible study, volunteering at VBS, or participating in a mission trip, there’s always a place for you to serve at West View Church.
